Leading with short presentations from captioning experts Yao Ding, Brenden Gilbert, and Lily Bond, this discussion gave you, our community, the opportunity to shape best practices for generating, presenting, and publishing captions in XR experiences.
Yao Ding leads user research at Meta’s Central Accessibility team, focusing on understanding users with disabilities to enhance accessible, equitable experiences. He advances Meta’s accessibility research through training, mentoring, establishing research panels, conducting design workshops, and academic collaborations.
Brenden GilbertDirector of Accessibility, VSL Labs
Brenden Gilbert is a tech evangelist with 20+ years in technology working with different companies. He is a deaf person who uses American Sign Language to communicate, navigating special challenges to be on the same playing field as everyone else.
Brenden was most recently at Meta for 4 years as a Senior Product Hardware Engineer , and an Accessibility and Inclusion leader, especially in the XR Space. He continues to be a phenomenal, passionate Accessibility and Disability Inclusion advocate for physical and digital spaces.
Lily BondSVP of Marketing, 3Play Media
Lily Bond is the Senior Vice President of Marketing at 3Play Media, the industry’s foremost provider of media accessibility services. Lily often speaks across the country on topics ranging from accessibility to artificial intelligence, and has written hundreds of articles on the topics of closed captioning, video accessibility, and legal standards for media access. She’ll discuss how industry vendors create captions, and what the current gaps are between current vendor captioning workflows and the needs of XR.
